Charlotte Posenenske

°1930 †1985
Died in Frankfurt am Main, DE
Born in Wiesbaden, DE

German artist Charlotte Posenenske (1930-1985) worked in the tradition of constructivist and concrete art, and set out in search of an innovative form of production and dissemination.

Her most famous works – which made a striking appearance at, among others, the Documenta XII – consist of a limited number of standardized forms made of galvanized steel or corrugated cardboard, combined in a variety of ways.

Posenenske left the art world in 1968 out of dissatisfaction with art’s inability to effect social change. The seminal works from 1967 clearly evince her struggle with these restrictions.
