Åsa Sonjasdotter is an artist born in Helsingborg, Sweden, living in Berlin, Germany. Sonjasdotter gathers stories from co-specie entanglements of people and plants. For quite some time she has been immersed by stories of potatoes, a plant that fed the industrial and agricultural revolutions, making possible vast cultural and demographic changes. In her artistic practice, Sonjasdotter brings about processes of matter, memory, loss, and prospect through the cultivation of plants, imagery, and stories. Sonjasdotter has been awarded the COAL prize for environmental art in France (Prix COAL Art et Environnement) by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development, and the National Centre of Plastic Arts (CNAP) in 2014, and by The Danish Art Foundation for the piece The Order of Potato in 2009.
